Are Chupa Chups Halal?
London: I don’t know about you but as a kid growing up in the UK one thing I use to look forward when coming back from school was stopping of at the local corner shop. We use to pick up a few sweets and of course a Chupa Chups lollypop.

However, many Muslims want to know if Chupa Chups are actually Halal or not?
There are different ingredients used for different flavours. Typically, most Chupa Chups lollipops do not have Haram (forbidden) ingredients such as gelatin, animal-based rennet, or alcohol.
The majority of the lollypops are created with sugar, glucose syrup, fruit flavours, and colourings.
But, some flavours might include contents obtained from non-Halal sources, such as certain emulsifiers, flavour enhancers, or colourings that may have been processed using animal substances.
One epic worry is the use of carmine (E120), a red colouring derived from insects, which is not deemed as Halal by many Islamic scholars.

A number of Chupa Chups items may also use artificial flavours that might include alcohol traces. Therefore it’s is advised to review the ingredients list on each item.
We contacted Chupa Chups and asked them if theyre products were Halal, they responded in March, 2025 and stated:
“Hello,
Thank you for contacting us. We appreciate your time in sending us your enquiry.
Unfortunately, none of our products across all of our brands are Halal certified. This is because our factories do produce other products that may have gelatine in them and although our production lines are thoroughly cleaned between the products being produced we are not able to certify any of our products as Halal.
I am sorry this maybe I appreciate disappointing but hope you understand. We do have many products that are suitable for vegetarians and vegans you may wish to try as they will not contain ingredients sourced from animals or animal by-products. So according to this response there can be cross contamination even if they have stringent cleaning processes so none of there products are Halal certified.
However they have many vegetarian items to chose from also, so it’s important to check packaging to see if the product is vegetarian or vegan.
