“Hi my name is LaShaun James. I am Digital Trainee at Halal Incorp, before I joined the company I was working at KFC as a staff member it wasn’t easy as we were under staffed and I had to do double shifts and over time but I persevered for 2 years. At this point in my life I felt I could do more with my life then I was introduced to Halal Incorp through the Kickstart Scheme, the £2billion Kickstart scheme which was recently introduced by the UK government.

Also the Kickstart Scheme provides funding to create new job placements for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment. I learnt a variety of new skills such as business, marketing and sales skills. I also learned office administration skills through tasks like mail outreach, LinkedIn outreach, data collection which I was new to and had no experience in but I quickly learnt these skills and I have a firmer grasp on my role here at Halal Incorp.”

“Prior to joining the kickstart scheme I was unemployed and was looking for jobs which was a long process. This is because of the continuous rejections I was experiencing. However, thankfully the Kickstart scheme has given me the opportunity and luxury to both work and earn from home which is convenient especially for those who have access to Wi-Fi. In the course of my ongoing experience with Kickstart I have learnt how to send out emails professionally which is vital and a useful skill development during future endeavours.”

Elle Harrison was working as a Kickstart Trainee in a HR support role for Action For Humanity, a charity based in Salford. She has made a great impact in her role and is now moving onto University to study law. Besides the support she received at the charity she also had support from Halal Incorp in relation to employability support & mentoring, she said:

“Finished online employability course, really helpful, looked through Dropbox HR folder relevant to polices and helped with volunteer Handbook creation. Monthly mentoring sessions has helped with reassurance and reminders of work being done.”
