Is Pepsi Halal?

Edited By Staff Writer, Halal Incorp

On a hot summers day many of us have cracked open a can or bottle of cold Pepsi.

But, when it comes to following a Halal way of living, Muslims consumers are regularly careful & considerate about the types of food and drink they consume.

Drinks can be an area of concern. So a general question that appears is: Is Pepsi Halal?

The straight forward answer is yes.

Pepsi is typically deemed as Halal. The components used in the drink, for example carbonated water, sugar, caramel colour, phosphoric acid, caffeine, and natural flavours, do not generally contain any Haram (forbidden) ingredients like the typical alcohol or pork derivatives. These are the basic elements found in most beverages & soft drinks and are generally Halal-friendly.

In many nations, which have a Muslim majority population Pepsi is certified as Halal by regional Halal certification entities.

This then means the soft drink aligns with Islamic dietary principles not just in components but also in the production & handling processes.

However, components as well as certifications can vary slightly by region. For Muslims who want to be extra vigilant , it’s generally a good idea to search for a Halal symbol on the can or bottle or you can check with the local Pepsi distributor in your locality.

To summarise, Pepsi is typically accepted as Halal & millions of Muslims around the globe consume it without any issues.

We checked their website on 8/4/25 to see if their products were Halal, the FAQ’s stated:

“IS PEPSI SUITABLE FOR HALAL OR KOSHER DIETS?

We don’t manufacture products specifically for such diets, our products in their sold states do not hold a recognised certification of conformity.

We do not actively seek out information from our ingredients suppliers regarding their suitability for Halal or Kosher diets, however if this is provided by the supplier we will keep this data on file.”
