Porsche Pakistan, the famous German automobile brand’s local subsidiary, has launched its latest luxury sedan, Panamera in Pakistan. The company deals in sedans, SUVs and offers after sales services for these vehicles.
Panamera is a luxury sedan with an unconventional design but with the distinctive Porsche-like curves. The car launched internationally in 2016, however, Pakistani market is only getting it now.
Such luxury cars tend to come with high price tags but offer cutting edge features, unseen in the consumer range vehicles. Globally, Porsche Panamera is available in 12 variants though Pakistan will get only 9, each with its own specialities.
Lets get down to the offered features, performance options and other details for the Porsche Panamera.
Even though Panamera is a sedan, it comes with a uniquely different design. When seen from the rear, it almost looks like a hatchback. The rounded curves, transitions and proportions depict customary Porsche designs.
Compared to the previous model, the new one brings a 3cm longer wheelbase. The overhang is shorter at the front coupled with a longer overhang at the rear.
Panamera’s rear sports a lightstrip with three dimensional LED taillights and four-spot brake lights.
Some sports and executive variants come with a rear spoiler which reduces body lift at high speeds.
Panamera comes with a redesigned luxurious interior. The central console ascends towards the front while the dashboard is flat and wide. Rev counter has been moved to the middle of the instrument cluster.
Porsche Advanced Cockpit sports a centre console with Direct Touch Control and a glassy look. Its touch sensitive buttons enable direct access to important functions. 12-inch touchscreen display adds to the futuristic looks.
Passengers at the rear seats also get a touchscreen display and two high resolution screens
A four zone automatic climate control takes charge of the car’s climate.
Despite targeting the sports car lovers, it offers plenty of space, comfort and luxury.
Engine & Performance
Powered by a twin turbo V6 engine (around 3000CC) or a twin turbo V8 (around 4000CC) , the Panamera can definitely offer class leading performance. It’s capable of pushing some serious horsepower starting at 325bhp and going all the way up to 671bhp.
The hybrid variants come with dual engines – electric motor and combustion engine – and can offer better performance and mileage (if it matters) compared to the rest. The diesel variant is not available in Pakistan and all available models either use electricity or petrol as a fuel source.
The sports car maker has introduced a new 8-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) to translate the engine’s power into the drive. It improves acceleration and top speed thanks to the 6th, 7th and 8th gears. Gearshifts take milliseconds avoiding any apparent disruption in the flow of power.
All Panamera models, except those with 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 engines, are equipped with Porsche Traction Management (PTM). This all-wheel drive functionality automatically adjusts the distribution of force to all wheels depending on the surface, acceleration and driving situation.
Rear axle steering is also available as an optional upgrade in some models while other get it as a standard. Porsche’s Active Suspension Management (PASM) digitally manages the damping force for each wheel, driving style and the type of road to reduce bumps and ensure a luxurious travel experience.
Sport mode, optional Sport Chrono Package and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport) also add to the car’s functionality.
More details on each model’s specific features is available here.
Safety & Security
Panamera comes with six piston aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers at the front and four-piston ones at the back, improving the brake performance and heat dissipation at high speeds. The company employs its own Ceramic composite brakes to offer maximum reliability.
Headlights get an upgrade as well and come with Porsche’s Dynamic Light System which automatically adjust the brightness and visibility. Even the headlight matrix is adjusted on the go so that incoming traffic isn’t disturbed by the high beam light.
Night view and environment protection are also carried over from Panamera’s predecessor. All safety and security features commonly seen in consumer grade cars are also available with improved functionality and performance.
With such features and luxury come very high price tags. These cars are only for those with deep pockets as even the cheapest model carries a price tag of over 24,000,000. Even though these models are internationally available for much less, Pakistani buyers will have to pay a premium (plus taxes) of 200% to 300% (depending on the model) if they want the latest Panamera with after sales support and maintenance.
